Direct shear stress( ) q = 50 MPa
Bending shear stress ( ) fa = 150 MPa
To find : Equivalent stress, ( )fe = ?
According to IS 800:2007 (Clause 10.5.10.1.1),
Equivalent stress :
fe = (fa^2 + 3q^2)^1/2
fe = 173.21 MPa .
Thus, the fillet weld is designed for an equivalent stress of 173.21 MPa.
